Kyrgyzstan Travel Safety: Areas to Avoid and Current Travel Advisories
Kyrgyzstan is generally safe for tourists, but there are some areas to avoid due to occasional incidents of violence and crime. The US Department of State advises travelers to avoid the border areas with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, as well as the city of Osh and its surrounding areas. There are also occasional reports of petty crime in Bishkek, the capital city. As of August 2021, the US Department of State has issued a Level 2 Travel Advisory for Kyrgyzstan, advising travelers to exercise increased caution due to the risk of terrorism and civil unrest. It is recommended to stay informed of local news and events, avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
